We care less about falling or failing and more about finding new things. I believe that reigniting this sense of creative self-discovery in the recovery process is so useful to our feeling at peace with life and changing behaviour.
Getting curious about things is a new-found passion of mine. I see how it has helped in my eating disorder recovery journey. When I became able to shift from a space of judgement of my emotions, situations, past, or future and into a space of curiosity, everything changed.
I went from “Why is this happening to me?” to, “I wonder what this is teaching me?” or “I wonder where this is coming from and what I need to deal with it?”
This simple shift opened my mind to a space of infinite possibility, where I was less stuck in the problem, and more able to explore the problem and its possible solutions.
Anyone who has met me before will know how much I love exploring ideas, having conversations, and getting curious about anything I can get my hands on. I felt so blessed when I got my audio engineering qualification - because it set the ball rolling for me to start my podcast around a topic that ties in with my primary work (mental health and eating disorder/addiction coaching).
Starting my recovery podcast called “Curious About Recovery”, which is available on Anchor.fm and Spotify, has been such an incredible journey. I have spoken to some of the most interesting people around the world and hope that this platform will grow as a space for people to explore and get curious about all avenues of recovery. Whether it’s looking at ways to combat diet culture, modalities such as somatic therapy for trauma healing, new science and research around eating disorders, personal stories, neurodiversity and LGBQT+ communities, or even how a pet can increase your ability to heal, I aim to really dive into disordered eating recovery so that every person who listens can feel safe, included, and inspired.
After all, eating disorders are complex and challenging to navigate. You may need to do a LOT of exploring, talking, learning, reading etc. to find the recovery life that works for you. This podcast might just be a space to start exploring those avenues.
So, whether you are a sufferer, professional or family / loved one of a sufferer, you can join me, Kirsten Hunneyball - Peer Recovery Specialist Coach, as I get curious about recovery by interviewing professionals, chatting to ED survivors, and sharing my personal ED experience so that you can better understand various perspectives, remove stigma, hear inspiring testimonies and simply get curious about all things eating disorder related.
